Thrissur: Two unidentified persons attacked SFI unit president of Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, with a knife in front of Bindu Theater near the college on Friday morning. The student leader Kadalikkattuveetil Akhil, who suffered injuries on his arm, was soon admitted to West Fort Hospital near the theatre. West police has registered a case. Soon after the attack, clashes broke out between SFI and ABVP at the college and college authorities called off the Christmas celebrations going on at the college.

Police reached the college and asked the students to move out of the campus. SFI leaders alleged that the attacked was carried out by political opponents. ABVP members later submitted a complaint to West police that they were attacked by SFI in the college and the police registered a case on the basis of it.

Last year, a state-wide protest was sparked off after ABVP workers in Kerala Verma College, who tried to block the SFI's beef fest in the college, got thrashed. Assistant professor of Malayalam department of the college Deepa Nisanth had also put a post in favour of the beef fest, which created controversy.
Later, the college union office at the college was set on fire by unknown persons.
