Visakhapatnam: ATM refiller held with Rs 15.5 lakh cash

It was suspected that he intended to exchange the new notes for demonetised currency.

Visakhapatnam: An employee of a cash management company engaged in replenishing cash at automated teller machines siphoned off about Rs 20 lakh in new Rs 2,000 currency notes by short-filling the ATMs in Vizag city. Dasari Srinivas, an employee with Scientific Management Service, was taken into custody by the Railway Protection Force personnel when trying to escape with Rs 15.5 lakh at Samalkot in East Godavari. The money was seized from him.

Srinivas was handed over to income-tax department officials who asked the police to take him into custody for investigation. Srinivas was among the staffers responsible for filling up cash in ATMs belonging to the SBI, HDFC and ING Vysya. Srinivas, with the support of a few others, misappropriated the cash by tinkering with the machines. It was suspected that he intended to exchange the new notes for demonetised currency.
