Hyderabad: Constable ends life after dispute

Police suspect that a family feud led to the suicide.

A police constable from 8th Battalion of the Telangana State Special Police committed suicide in his quarters at Kondapur on Wednesday. P. Vijay Kumar, 29, hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his bedroom early on Wednesday morning. Police suspect that a family feud led to the suicide. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, who found his body and alerted the other cops in the campus. Following preliminary inquiry, Gachibowli police officials said that Kumar was depressed about his family.

“There were many quarrels between husband and wife in the past. His wife had lodged a complaint against him for domestic abuse in a police station at his native town in Prakasam district. Police had booked a case against him in that regard. 15 days ago, elders from both families sat together and solved the issue and made his wife live with him,” said Gachibowli sub- inspector Ch. Ramaiah.
“His wife was living separately before that,” the inspector told this newspaper.

Police suspects that the cop must have been extremely depressed about his marital life and decided to end his life. On Tuesday night, his wife and children slept in the living room, while Kumar slept alone in the bedroom. In the morning, when his wife woke up, she found him hanging from the ceiling fan.
Kumar, who had joined as a constable in 2007, was working with the 8th battalion of Telangana State Special Police. Police have booked a case for suspicious death under CrPC 174 and started investigation.
