Hyderabad: 3-years rigorous imprisonment for top drugs official

According to CBI officials, Chandra Sekar Rao was trapped in 2014 and was tried under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation Court Principal Special Judge on Wednesday convicted Deputy Drug Controller A. Chandra Sekar Rao to three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for each offence.

According to CBI officials, Chandra Sekar Rao was trapped in 2014 and was tried under the Prevention of Corruption Act. In January 2014 Rao was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 as part payment of Rs 4 lakh bribe.

He was then heading the Hyderabad Zone of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. The bribe was paid to extend the licence of Janani Voluntary Blood Bank in Secunderabad and Kukatpally. A search of Rao’s house found '26 lakh in cash, gold ornaments, and property documents.
