Telangana: Student goes missing, kidnapping suspected

CCTV footage shows suspicious car speeding away.

HYDERABAD: 13-year-old Bhavyasri, a resident of Margadarshi Colony, is missing. The Class VIII student of Narayana School in RK Puram, Chaitanyapuri, left home at 7.30 am on Monday morning, an hour before the usual time of her departure for school. Assuming that she had gone to a neighbour’s house, her parents waited for her return. When she failed to show up, her parents called the school authorities at around 9 am and were informed that Bhavyasri had not reached at school. They immediately filed a missing person complaint at the Chaitanyapuri police station.

Police officials alerted shops and institutions in the neighbourhood and asked for access to their CCTV footage. They were able to ascertain that a black Maruti Swift took the route from Bhavyasri’s home to her school around the time of her disappearance. G. Guru Raghavendra, the Inspector of Chaitanyapuri, said, “We cannot rule out the possibility of a kidnapping. We are trying to track down the owner of the vehicle. We have relea-sed the footage of the car, but nothing has been confirmed yet. As per our preliminary investigation, Bhavyasri does not appear to have left a note at home, so we are hesitant to say that this could be the case of a runaway child.”

The car in question was last seen near Narayana School, as per the footage from the CCTV camera of a nearby shop. Police officials say that it is difficult to identify the man in the driver’s seat on the basis of the footage, and it cannot be confirmed if Bhavyasri was even present in the vehicle. However, they say that the vehicle was speeding, which may be a cause for suspicion. Bhavyasri’s close friends were interrogated and asked if they noticed any suspicious actions on her part. They said that there was nothing out of the ordinary and no apparent reason for her to have run away. The missing child is not known to be carrying a mobile phone or any money.
