Karnataka: Roach a publicity stunt, two arrested
Bengaluru: The cockroach in the Indira Canteen upma, a video of which went viral since Saturday morning, is the handiwork of two autorickshaw drivers, who have been arrested. They confessed to the police that they did it for publicity.
The drivers, Hemanth and Devaraju, both residents of Kamakshipalya, recorded the video at the Kottigepalya Indira Canteen and put it up on social networking sites. They asked viewers not to eat at these unhygienic canteens, run by the state government. At the canteen, they created a nuisance and hurled abuse at the canteen staff, and BBMP officials filed a complaint against them at the Kamakshipalya police station, the police said.
On October 20, Hemanth and Devaraju along with their two other friends went to the canteen. While eating, Hemanth allegedly dropped the cockroach, which he had brought with him, into the food. He recorded the video and uploaded it in social media sites, which went viral on social media platforms and anti-government pages shared it widely. The police said that the accused confessed to putting the cockroach in the food for ‘publicity’, but ruled out association with any political party.
