Hyderabad: A drunk allegedly beat his wife to death at his home in Pahadishareef and tried to mislead her family and the police saying that she had collapsed due to fits and died of a head injury.
Police later found that the suspect, Md. Nawed, hit the victim Samreen Fathima with a stick on her head many times after a quarrel.
The 20-year-old Samreen’s body was found inside their room with serious head injuries. Their one-year-old son was sleeping in the room when the murder occurred.
Neighbours said they heard the couple quarrelling at night and sounds of the woman being assaulted.
Pahadishareef police officials received information from the victim’s mother about the murder.
“After murdering his wife Nawed told his mother-in-law that her daughter had collapsed due to fits and died of a head injury. When she came to his house the neighbours told her about the sounds they heard and she informed us,” said a police official.
In order to mislead police the suspect had cleaned out blood from the room. However, cops found injuries on the victim's body which indicated that she was beaten with a stick many times.
“On Saturday night they quarrelled after he came home drunk. Enraged he hit her with the stick. We have not found the reason for the quarrel yet”" said inspector V.V Chalapathi.
Nawed and Samreen got married just two years ago and they have a one-year-old son. Nawed, a labourer, had been getting drunk and quarrelling with his wife since many months for petty reasons.
Police booked a case and started a search for the suspect who fled after informing his mother-in-law.
