Hyderabad: Man held for trying to smuggle Dirham

On thorough checking, about 3,50,375 UAE dirham valued at Rs 67.65 lakh was found concealed in his baggage.

Hyderabad: An air passenger who attempted to smuggle foreign currency out of the country was held by Central Industrial Security Force personnel at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad on Sunday night. Officials seized UAE dirham worth Rs 67.65 lakh from the passenger.

According to CISF officials, at around 11.50 pm on Sunday, during security checks at the RGI airport in Shamshabad, a passenger identified as Md Ali Khan was found to be carrying unaccounted foreign currency in his hand baggage.

On thorough checking, about 3,50,375 UAE dirham valued at Rs 67.65 lakh was found concealed in his baggage. The passenger holding an Indian passport was supposed to travel to Dubai on an Indigo flight scheduled to leave Hyderabad at 1.30 am on Monday.

He failed to produce any documents related to the foreign currency. It was subsequently recovered and handed over to Customs officials along with the passenger for further action, said CISF officials.
