Hyderabad: Burglars attempt to mow down SI of Dundigal police station

The suspects later abandoned their vehicle in the Dulapally forest area. Apparently, they made good their escape in another vehicle.

HYDERABAD: A sub-inspector of Dundigal police station had a narrow escape when suspects, who were attempting to burgle a jewellery store, tried to run their vehicle over him while escaping from the scene of offence.

The suspects later abandoned their vehicle in the Dulapally forest area. Apparently, they made good their escape in another vehicle.

According to Dundigal police, the incident took place at around 2.15 am near Dulapally under Pet Basheerabad police station limits. Sub-inspector Shekhar Reddy, who was the night duty officer, was on patrolling duty in the Dulapally area along with two constables and a home guard. They noticed a van (TS 10 EG 7029) parked near a jewellery store.

Suspecting something was amiss, the police stopped their vehicle near the store to check out the persons who were in the van. As SI Shekhar got down and approached the van, the suspects started their vehicle and drove straight on to the SI. But he moved sideways and escaped, while the suspects sped away in their van.

Balanagar DCP P. V. Padmaja said: “The police team gave a chase and found the suspects’ vehicle abandoned in the Dulapally forest area. The vehicle had rammed into a tree on the roadside. Apparently, the suspects escaped in another vehicle.”

The abandoned vehicle was found to be a stolen one. It contained stones and tools generally used in committing burglaries. Based on a complaint from the SI, a case has been registered. Special teams are working on clues to nab the accused, said DCP Padmaja.
