Stressed out colleague kills aavin security guard

Teynampet police have registered a case and are investigating.

Chennai: A day after a security guard was found murdered inside Aavin zonal office in Nandanam, Teynampet police have arrested his colleague, on Thursday.

The victim, A. Kumarasamy (50) of Keezh Manavur village near Anaicut in Vellore district was a retired army man and was working as a security guard in Aavin zonal office in Nandanam for nearly 18 months. “On Wednesday morning around 7.45 am, the other security guards of Aavin office spotted Kumarasamy lying unconscious with a severe head injury. They rushed him to Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment but he succumbed to injuries on the evening,” the police said.

Teynampet police have registered a case and are investigating. During the investigation, it has transpired that the victim’s colleague, R. Anandhan (56) of Kalputhur village near Katpadi in Vellore district, had allegedly beaten Kumarasamy on his head with an iron rod over a previous enmity. Anandhan also works as a security guard in the same office. Anandhan is also an ex-serviceman.

According to the police, Anandhan was angry with the deceased Kumarasamy since the latter did not report to duty for the last four days, making him work continuously without a break. “On Wednesday, when Kumarasamy reached Aavin Zonal Office, an argument erupted between them. In a fit of rage, Anandhan hit Kumarasamy with an iron rod. Kumarasamy fell unconscious while Anandhan fled the spot,” the police said.

Teynampet police launched a hunt and arrested Anandhan on Thursday and sent him to judicial remand. The police also recovered the iron rod used by the accused to bludgeon the victim.

Meanwhile, police said that the security services firm the duo worked for had posted the two as guards for Aavin Zonal office, but since Kumarasamy was irregular to duty, Anandhan was burdened with double shifts and made to work without a break often. On Wednesday, he murdered Kumarasamy out of sudden provocation, according to the police.
