Hyderabad: Woman commits suicide as brother can't come for rakhi
Hyderabad: Twenty-six-year-old Bhavana Devi of Kumariguda, Secunderabad, jumped off the third floor of her building as her brother Mukesh Kumar refused to come to Hyderabad for Rakhi Purnima falling on August 26. The deceased is survived by a daughter, two sons and husband.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 2.30 pm soon after the woman ended a call with her brother. The woman, in a fit of rage, leaped from the third floor. The locals rushed the housewife to Vijaya Health care nearby from where she was shifted to Yashoda, where she succumbed to grave head injuries on the same evening.
According to A. Anjaiah, sub-inspector of police, Market police station, Ms Devi who shared a strong emotional bond with her family, made several requests to her brother who lives in Pune to visit the city during rakhi. However he refused citing personal reasons. Upset over his decision, Devi took the drastic step that has cost her life.
On Wednesday, her brother, Mukesh Kumar, rushed to the city while she was undergoing treatment, but she died at 7:30 pm.
According to the police, the victim's husband, Uttam Devdas, and family migrated to Hyderabad from Rajasthan a few years ago.
The brother told the police that the couple had no marital disputes neither did she face any harassment from the in-laws.
The police have booked the case under section 174 CrPc and further investigation is underway. The Market police have handed over the dead body to family members after autopsy at Gandhi Hospital. Ms Devi's body was taken to Rajasthan for final rites.
