Thiruvananthapuram: A youth was held on charges of abducting and raping a minor girl hailing from Thumba near here.
Police identified the accused as Midhun, 23, of Azhoor near Chirayankeezhu.
Midhun had earlier stayed at a rented house near the girl’s house and thus developed an acquaintance with the girl. He later promised to marry her.
On July 28, he took the girl from her house under the pretext of marrying her.
However, she was taken to one of his relatives’ house at Chirayankeezu and was sexually abused .
The police later rescued the girl from the house following a man missing complaint lodged by her parents.
Midhun who was absconding was nabbed the other day on the basis of a tip-off received by Cyber City assistant commissioner of police Mr Pramod Kumar.
Midhun was a casual labourer. He was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days after medical examinations, police said.
