Kochi: A nine-year old boy from Adimali was brought to the Ernakulam General Hospital on Tuesday with bruises and injuries all over the body as the Kadavantra police took his mother into custody after relatives accused her of torturing him. The boy, identified as Naufal, son of Selena and Nazeer, was brought to the General Hospital around 4 pm. “He was rushed there by his relatives. His mother Salena was also there. However, the relatives accused her of subjecting the boy to cruel torture. We are questioning her,” the police said.
Meanwhile, the Adimali police said they got a call from the relatives in the morning that the boy was locked up in a room and is being tortured. “We went to the house at Koombanpara, located near forest. We’re told that he was attacked by a monkey while feeding food. However, the on-lookers accused the mother of pouring hot water on the boy. We asked her to take the boy to the Kottayam Medical College,” police said.
However, Salena took the boy to Ernakulam instead and called the relatives after she ran out of money. The relatives rushed the boy to the General hospital after reaching here. The boy’s father Nazeer is currently in jail in a ganja case. “We’re yet to take any case against the woman. Probe is on regarding the injuries,” police said. General hospital authorities said the wounds are not life threatening and that they had referred the boy to the Institute of Child Heath, Kottayam.
