VISAKHAPATNAM: A 32-year-old man was murdered by a rowdy sheeter near a fish market under the MVP Colony police station limits in Vizag city on Friday night. The victim lent Rs 500 to the killer. The murder has sparked a protest from the relatives of the victim near the police station demanding stringent action against the accused.

The deceased was identified as D. Appala Reddy, a resident of MVP Colony and the accused rowdy-sheeter N. Gowri Shankar, who had been involved in several robbery and burglary cases within the MVP Colony police station limits.

The police said that Shankar borrowed Rs 500 from Appala Reddy to consume liquor but failed to return the money. On Friday night, Appala Reddy asked Shankar’s brother Sai to return the money and had a heated argument with him. Later, Sai narrated the incident to Shankar. Infuriated over this, an inebriated Shankar, along with Sai, rushed to Appala Reddy’s place, where Shankar stabbed Reddy on his neck and chest with a knife. Reddy was shifted to King George Hospital in Vizag city, where he was declared dead.

ACP (Dwaraka Sub-Division) R.V.S.N. Murthy said that both the killers were at large and they formed a team to nab them.

Meanwhile, relatives and friends of the victim gathered near the MVP Colony police station and demanded the police to take stringent action against the accused. The local MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu consoled the family members.
