Madhya Pradesh: Mentally-ill woman lynched, 12 arrested
Bhopal: A mentally challenged woman was lynched by a mob in a Madhya Pradesh village following rumours of movement of a child trafficker in the area spread in a WhatsApp group, police said on Monday. The incident took place in the village of Bhos in Morwa region under Singrauli district early on Sunday morning.
“Twelve people were arrested in connection with the incident. Two other accused were absconding”, Singrauli district superintendent of police Riyaz Iqbal said on Monday. The 30-year-old victim who strayed into the village was grilled by the villagers on suspicion of being a child lifter and later beaten to death by the mob, police said.
The body was recovered on Sunday in the nursery of the forest department in the locality. “Rumours spread in WhatsApp led to the tragedy”, the SP said. The incident comes barely a fortnight after two foresters including woman range officer were nearly lynched by people on suspicion of being child lifters.
