Hyderabad: A 19-year-old youth was booked by Yacharam police on Sunday for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old Class III student.
Police said the girl was a neighbour of the youth, P. Shiva, who had come to stay with his relatives.
“On Sunday morning as the girl was playing in front of her house, Shiva took her inside the house and sexually assaulted her. She raised an alarm and alerted elders,” said sub inspector Venkat of Yacharam police.
The girl’s elders lodged a complaint with Yacharam police against the youth who went absconding.
“We are investigating the case and a hunt is on to find the youth,” the sub inspector added. Based on a complaint from the girl’s parents Yacharam police booked a case under relevant sections of IPC and the Pocso Act and launched an investigation.
