According to the police, the victim was Muskan Begum, 6, daughter of Babu Miya, an autorickshaw driver, resident of Masjid Basthi in Hasmathpet.
Around 10.45 am, Muskan was playing in front of her house and ended up near a grocery store. A tipper carrying gravel which was traversing the same route began to move in reverse on the inclined path after its brakes failed.
Muskan was right behind the vehicle when this happened and got run over. The heavy vehicle stopped only after hitting an autorickshaw behind it. Muskan received critical bleeding injuries and died on the spot, the police said.
Locals attempted to catch the driver but he abandoned the vehicle and escaped from the spot.
