Haul of 1,000 kg ganja in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: Vizag police have seized 1,000 kg of dry ganja worth over ₹1 crore and arrested five persons while they had been transporting the narcotic in two vehicles near Vemulavalasa in Vizag city.

The arrested have been identified as Ch. Mohan Suryam, Anaparthi Prasad, P. Lova Raju, Vanthala Raju Babu and Vanthala Suribabu.

Police commissioner Thrivikram Varma said based on credible information, city task force police intercepted the vehicles near Y Junction under Anandaparam police station limits in the city and seized 25 bags of ganja, each bag containing 40 kg of the narcotic. Police also seized three mobile phones and ₹3,600 cash from the gang

The accused confessed that they procured the weed from pockets of Kancharapeta and Suvapalli villages in Odisha that border the Korukonda agency of ASR district. The narcotic was being moved to Tamil Nadu for sale.

Police have identified four persons, who supplied the ganja to smugglers. Efforts are on to identify and nab the traders in Tamil Nadu.

A few days ago, city police seized another 1,000 kg of ganja hidden under paddy bags being carried by a van near Pendurthi in Vizag city.
