Hyderabab: The LB Nagar police arrested a software company employee on Tuesday for allegedly cheating and raping an engineering student.
LB Nagar inspector Kasi Reddy said K. Ravi Teja, 26, was a relative of the victim. “Ravi came in touch with the victim few years ago at a family function and become close slowly. After a period of time, he proposed marriage to the victim, and both families agreed,” the inspector said.
Taking advantage of the proximity, the accused lured the victim to his house in Nagole and sexually assaulted her. After the incident, Ravi and his family started avoiding the victim.
After the incident, the victim along with her family went to Ravi’s house and requested them to continue with the alliance, said the official.
This angered Ravi’s father K. Jagdeshwar Babu, who allegedly caught hold of the victim by her hair and dragged her away from the steps, the inspector said. To pacify the victim’s family, Ravi agreed and their engagement was performed earlier this year.
After this, Ravi and his family again started avoiding the victim and her family. When the victim questioned Ravi, he and his family threatened her with dire consequences if she contacted them again.
The victim’s family lodged a complaint with the police, and Ravi was arrested by the LB Nagar police and sent to judicial remand. Ravi has been booked for rape and cheating.
