Cab driver held for wife's suicide

Police said Yadaiah would come home drunk, and harass Anitha mentally and physically.

Hyderabad: Meerpet police arrested a cab driver on Wednesday for abetting the suicide of his wife. Kadari Yadaiah, 38, was reportedly harassing his wife Anitha, 30, for dowry since their marriage 12 years ago.

“On May 15, after a quarrel with her husband, Anitha allegedly consumed bathroom acid and died in the house,” said DCP, LB Nagar, M. Venkateshwara Rao. Yadaiah was arrested by the Meerpet police on Wednesday.

Police said Yadaiah would come home drunk, and harass Anitha mentally and physically. “Anitha sustained serious injuries last year after Yadaiah beat her, for which she was treated,” the DCP said.

After the incident, Yadaiah promised that he would look after Anitha well, and got her back home. For the two months, he had been threatening Anitha with murder if she did not bring dowry, Mr Venkateshwara Rao said.

Yadaiah was booked for abetment to suicide and Dowry Prohibition Act.
