Conditions bad for Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal folks

They continue to be cheated by agents and get 10,000 units of gulf currency against the actual assurances by the agents.

Manama (Bahrain): While about 80 per cent of Indian workers in Gulf countries are getting good salaries thanks to the initiative taken by governments, the Indian government, the condition of workers from neighbouring countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal is very bad.

They continue to be cheated by agents and get 10,000 units of gulf currency against the actual assurances by the agents.

K Uchit Lal from Kathmandu in Nepal says he was promised he would be paid 120 Bahrain Dinars (approximately Rs 32,000 Nepali rupees). “But, when I got my first salary from the agency in Bahrain, I got only BD 60, that is, only Nepali Rupees 16,000 (Rs 10,000). When I asked my employer, he said my salary in the agreement was only BD 60. Here, you need at least BD 60 for bread and butter for one person for one month. My salary is spent just on food every month.”

S K Raza from Pakistan and Mohammad Wahid from Bangladesh, who work for a star hotel in Bahrain, say they were cheated by agents in their countries and are getting less than they were promised. They get BD 60 to 75 per month against the actual promise of BD 150 to 200.

They say they are surviving on the tips they get and food provided by the hotel management.
