Hyderabad: Nigerian pusher held, drug seized

Ugochukwu was arrested along with Benad and three others by the Golconda police and remanded to judicial custody.

Hyderabad: The police arrested a Nigerian drug peddler from Banjara Hills on Thursday and seized 53 grams of cocaine from him.

The suspect, Ugochukwu Godpower, 25, is a resident of Alkapuri township in Cyberabad. His associate, David Chris Richard Mueller is absconding. The police recovered a laptop and six cellphones from him.

“Ugochukwu came to New Delhi in November 2015 on a tourist visa. He used to visit Hyderabad regularly to meet friend Benard, a native of Lagos state of Sierra Leone, who is staying at T Colony in Sun City in Bandlaguda. When he was with Benard, he observed that he was purchasing cocaine at low prices and selling it to customers at a high price. Benard asked Ugochukwu to join him and he agreed. They used to purchase cocaine for Rs 3,000 a gram and sell it for Rs 5,000-6,000 to visitors of pubs, hotels, restaurants etc,” said DCP B. Limba Reddy of the commissioner's task force.

Ugochukwu was arrested along with Benad and three others by the Golconda police and remanded to judicial custody. In December 2016 the suspect was released from jail and was staying with David since then and had started his business again.

On Thursday, while he was waiting to sell the drug near Ohris Hotel on Road No: 12, Banjara Hills, police arrested him along with cocaine. “Investigations are being conducted to expose their network with local and foreign drug dealers,” said DCP Satyanarayana.
