Hyderabad: Forty cops removed from traffic section in last 3 years
Hyderabad: Forty traffic policemen were dismissed in the last three years by the Hyderabad traffic police for taking bribes from motorists and for other charges.
Hyderabad traffic police says they follow a zero tolerance policy towards corrupt cops. They said that if anyone is caught taking bribes he will be dismissed.
On March 17, a home guard was caught taking bribe from a biker who was driving without helmet at Himayatnagar junction. Police officials said the fine for driving without helmet is only Rs 100.
They said that instead of paying bribes to cops motorists should pay fines directly. In the last three months three home guards were punished for taking bribes from the public.
The police has also requested motorists to complain through helpline numbers, WhatsApp or its FB page about corrupt traffic policemen.
Traffic additional CP Jitender said, “The Hyderabad traffic police has zero tolerance towards corruption. Motorists should not pay anything to traffic cops, instead they should pay the fine. If they have any complaints they should inform us so that we can strict action against the cops who take money from the public.” He added, “We will not tolerate corruption. It is considered a serious offence”.
Sandeep Jangli, an IT professional said, “It’s good the police is taking action against those who are taking bribes. But this shouldn’t be limited to just constables and home guards. We see that there are many big fishes in the police who take huge bribes. When they are caught they are in the news for a while but afterwards nothing happens. Dismissals should be applicable to top officials too.”
