Top Maoist from Jharkhand nabbed by Tamil Nadu police
Chennai: A top ranking Maoist, allegedly involved in 17 cases in Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, holed up in a village near Chennai as a migrant worker, was nabbed by ‘Q’ Branch CID of Tamil Nadu police on Tuesday morning.
He was identified as Surendra Yadav, 34, a native of Jharkhand, who was staying as a construction labourer near a private university at Thandalam village near Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district for the last several months. “He had managed to mingle well with the other migrant workers without raising any suspicion. Only after an intelligence input from Jharkhand, we started monitoring him and nabbed him early Tuesday morning,” a police officer said.
Though the Q branch arrested the wanted extremist, following a tip-off, it is not clear if he was having any ‘mission’ to accomplish in Chennai or he was using the place just as a hideout. “Only after questioning him in detail we will know if he had any plan of action in Chennai. He had jumped bail and had gone underground for the last two years. In his outfit, he was a zonal commandant,” sources said.
Surendra Yadav who hails from Mayarpur, Palamu district, Jharkhand, carried a reward and was reportedly involved in attacks on CRPF in the past.
