Kollam murder case: Cops to re-verify mother's mental status
KOLLAM: The police team investigating the brutal murder of Jithu Job, 14, will re-examine the mental stability of Jaya Mol, 42, who had confessed to killing her son. The police had earlier received a medical report that her mental faculties were intact. But Jithu’s sister revealed that Jaya Mol was suffering from mental illness for the past one year, which prompted the Police in go for a second round of medical examination to verify the woman’s mental fitness.
The charred and disfigured body of Jithu Job of Job Bhavan, Kureeppalli, Kundara, was recovered from a plot near their house last Wednesday.
The police will get Jaya Mol in custody on Wednesday and will also investigate into the motive behind the crime. Jaya Mol, who confessed that she had committed the murder single-handedly, which the police is still doubtful about, was remanded by a court in Paravur earlier.
“The police, after getting her in custody on Wednesday, will continue with the probe to find the real motive behind the murder which she confessed to be because of property issues. The mental stability of the accused will also be verified thoroughly if needed, apart from a preliminary verification conducted at Thiruvananthapuram MCH earlier,” Kottiyam CI G. Ajayanath told DC.
The police had earlier interrogated Tina, sister of Jithu Job, who revealed that her mother was suffering from psychiatric issues which were not treated on time as they never anticipated such a macabre murder. She also told the investigation team that her mother had issues whenever Jithu visited his father Job G. John's family house. A furious Jayamol would calm down after a while but the family did not take her rage seriously.
The police has also inferred that Jaya Mol killed her son impulsively out of rage. According to the police, Jayamol strangled her son to death in the kitchen. Then, she dragged his body to the backyard and burnt him with dry leaves and coconut shells. Jithu’s burnt remains were recovered from an empty plot 300 metres away from the house. Jaya has confessed to dragging the body to the empty plot all by herself.
