Coimbatore: A 52-year-old government school headmaster was arrested for sexually harassing a class 4 girl on school premises near Aliyar in Pollachi.
Police said that Dharmaraj, 52, working as headmaster at Aliyar elementary government school near Pollachi had sexually harassed a class four girl during the morning break.
The incident came to light when the girl returned home during the lunch break, complaining of severe stomach pain. After reaching home, she had told her parents about the abuse by the headmaster. Her parents along with her relatives gheraoed the school on Monday afternoon.
On receiving the information Aliyar police rushed to the spot and took the headmaster into custody. When police delayed investigation, people gheraoed the police station too. They left the police station after police promised to take necessary action.
Further investigation revealed that Dharmaraj used to harass a a few other girl students from the same school. A couple of years ago, he faced departmental action including suspension and transfer. He was transferred to Aliyar from Vettaikaranpudhur government school after complaints of sexual harassment came up there.
Following reports submitted to district elementary school officer Balamurugan, Dharmaraj was immediately suspended. Aliyar police have registered a complaint and further investigations are on.
