Bengaluru: 3 chain snatchers held, 19 cases solved
Bengaluru: Inspired by YouTube videos, three people took to chain snatching to make easy money, but their luck ran out on Tuesday after they were arrested by the Girinagar police.
The accused have been identified as Imraan Pasha, 31 and Afjal Sharif, 34, both residents of HSR Layout and Abdul Shapakath, 22, a native of Ramanagar, and 19 cases were solved.
According to the police, Imraan worked as a car driver and had incurred huge debts. He got inspired after watching a YouTube video of chain snatching and convinced his friend, Afjal that it was an easy job where they can earn quick money and lead a luxurious life.
The duo purchased a second-hand bike to commit the crime. They used to snatch two chains in a day and then go on a break of 15-20 days, before committing the next crime. They used to frequently change the registration number plate of their bike.
Imraan later roped in his wife’s younger brother Abdul and advised him not to disclose about their activities to anyone in the family.
Imraan’s family members grew suspicious about their new found luxurious life. However, he allayed their suspicion by claiming that he had started a new business of buying new vehicles and selling them. The police recovered gold chains worth Rs 18.2 lakh.
