Bid to open ATM of ICICI Bank in Kukatpally

The ICICI Bank's call centre received a complaint that the machine was not working.

Hyderabad: Criminals made a futile attempt to rob two ATMs in Kukatpally and KPHB. In Kukatpally, the suspects reached the currency chest, but in KPHB they could only break the door using metal objects.

The cash management agency had loaded Rs 3 lakh on Friday in the ICICI Bank ATM at Kukatpally. Mallaiah, who was on guard duty on Saturday nigh, became ill and his son Mahesh came for night duty, but he also pulled down the shutter, and went home to sleep at around 1.30 am.

In the morning when he came to sweep he found the machine was broken, but out of fear he did not alert anyone.

The ICICI Bank’s call centre received a complaint that the machine was not working. “When their staff went to check the machine they found it broken and alerted the authorities. We found the cables connecting the CCTV cameras had been disconnected,” said an official. Police said the bank authorities are checking records to find out the cash lost. A case was registered after a complaint from an employee of the cash management service.

Meanwhile in KPHB Colony, an Axis Bank ATM was targeted on Sunday night. Police said on Sunday night a customer, who came to withdraw cash, found the machine open and alerted the police.

“He found that cash was not loaded in the machine after demonetisation,” police said.

Mr Ganesh, senior manager of Axis Bank, said they have stopped filling cash in the machine from December 17, 2016 and transactions at the machine were temporarily suspended.
