DCA Seize Rs 4.35 Crore Worth Spurious Anti Cancer Drugs From Pharma Units

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) along with local police raided unlicenced drug manufacturing units in the twin cities city and Khammam district and seized 935 kg of spurious clopidogrel (which helps prevent formation of blood clots) and valsartan (to treat blood pressure) and other material worth Rs 4.35 crore from the premises.

The raid was conducted at an unlicensed premises located on Plot No. 15 at the TSIIC Industrial Park at Annarugudem. It was stated to be a unit of Aspen Biopharma, V.B. Kamlasan Reddy, DCA director, stated in a press release on Saturday.

The prime accused Kadari Sateesh Reddy, production manager, who is absconding, is the key conspirator, Kamalasan Reddy said.

He said that on December 4, the DCA had raided a unit being operated by Upender Reddy, a close relative of Sateesh Reddy, where spurious anticancer drugs and other medicines worth Rs 4.35 crore were seized,

“We have seized the spurious drugs and sent them to FSL for examination. We are waiting for the reports to prosecute the accused,” Kalasan Reddy said.
