BELAGAVI: The brutal gangrape and murder of a minor school girl from Vijayapura is taking a political colour as some of the accused are said to be associates of a prominent politician from the city.
Even as the Vijayapura police refused to name the accused, believed to have been arrested on Thursday, it came to light that the accused allegedly hailed from a right wing outfit. The case was handed to CID for investigation by CM Siddaramaiah on Thursday. At least three of the arrested are said to be minors, all residents of Vijayapura, according to sources.
Meanwhile, many organisations from Vijapura, mainly Dalit outfits, staged a dharna in the city and have announced a Vijayapura bandh on Saturday. Sources said the police have not made the arrests official yet. All the arrested are reportedly below 21 years old.
