Chennai: Two police sub-inspectors attached to the technical wing of the Kancheepuram police were killed after the two-wheeler they were riding on was mowed down by a truck near Thirukazhukundram in Kancheepuram district on Thursday night. The deceased were identified as Venkatesan (51), a special sub Inspector attached to Vishnu Kanchi police station and Bhuvaneshwari (30), a sub inspector attached to the control room in district police headquarters. Both of them were posted in the Crime and Criminal Tracking Systems (CCTNS) wing on special duty and were returning to the district police headquarters after attending to technical snags when the accident happened, police sources said.

According to a police officer, they first attended to technical work at Kayar police station and then at Mamallapuram and were returning to Kancheepuram when the accident happened. Venkatesan was riding the bike (TN 21 AH 4397) while Bhuvaneshwari rode pillion. When they were moving along Padmavathi sugar mill near Palayaseevaram, a truck collided with their two-wheeler around 9 pm. The duo was thrown to the ground. Police have registered a case under IPC Section304 (a) (death caused due to negligent driving) and launched a hunt for the truck driver.
