Kottayam: Thieves also visit the places of worship, not to pray but to steal money from the unsuspecting faithful.   Mr P.S. Venkatesh, a journalist based in Hyderabad, lost  Rs 6,000  while he slept  in the Mahadevar temple, Chengannur, after a pilgrimage to Sabarimala early on December 16. Mr Venkitesh, reporter of a news magazine, had visited the temple for writing an article about it.

He slept by the side of the auditorium of the temple where other pilgrims were also sleeping.  When he woke up, he found his wallet ripped open and the money missing.  The ATM transaction cards were found nearby. “Some other  pilgrims also lost their money,” he said.  He  filed a complaint with the Chegannur police who registered a case.
