Bengaluru: After a long wait, the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI), Chennai, unit on Tuesday took over the investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Kumar Ajitabh, a software engineer, who went missing on December 18 last year.
On that day Ajitabh (30), a resident of Whitefield, had gone to meet the prospective buyer of his car. He had earlier posted an advertisement for the same on an e-commerce website.
Ajitabh was working with British telecom and staying with his parents at an apartment in Whitefield.
The case was initially registered by Whitefield police, based on the complaint filed by Ajitabh’s friend.
The police found that Ajitabh’s phone was switched off. They tried tracing the person who had called Ajitabh posing as buyer, but they found that the SIM card used him was purchased using fake documents.
After the local police failed to crack the case, the family approached High court seeking a CBI investigation.
The court pulled by the city police for its inept handling and handed over the case to criminal investigation department (CID).
However, after CID too could not make any headway, the court directed the CBI to take over the case.
Based on the court direction, the CBI registered a missing case on Tuesday. They would now seek case files from the CID officials for further investigation.
