Hyderabad: Man claims to be volunteer, fools, steals from pensioner

Hyderabad: A person who claimed to be a volunteer and help a pensioner fill her form, deceived her and escaped with one tola gold on Wednesday.

According to the Kukatpally police, the victim named M. Mamatha, 52, a resident of Bagh Ameer, Kukatpally works as helper in Narayana Junior College.

While returning home from college on Wednesday, she went to a government hospital to take her eye medicines.

M. Manikyam sub-inspector of police said, “An unidentified person introduced himself as a volunteer who would help her fill her widow pension form. The person demanded Rs 500 to buy the form, fill it and open a bank account,” the sub-inspector said.

“When the victim told him that she doesn’t have money, the person asked her to give her gold chain to open a bank account and buy the form,” he added.

“The victim believed the accused and handed over her gold chain. The accused then fled with the chain,” he said.

We are checking the CCTV cameras in the surroundings to identify the accused.

After realising that she was cheated, the woman lodged a complaint in the Kukatpally police station.

The police registered a case and further investigation is underway to nab the criminal.
