Hyderabad: Assailants waylay contractor, stab him

Due to the lack of CCTV cameras in that area, the police could not trace the suspects immediately.

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police have formed a special team to nab the accused who killed a 39-year-old civil contractor from Champapet area.

K. Raji Reddy was heading towards Hayathnagar in his car when he was attacked by a group of people, who hacked him to death at Parvathapur.

The police said that they are not sure if the suspects were travelling with Reddy or intercepted his car. Due to the lack of CCTV cameras in that area, the police could not immediately find the suspects and are searching the call data records and footage from nearby areas to find clues.

On Wednesday, Raji Reddy left home at about 9 am. About 12 hours later, his wife K. Susmitha received a call from Reddy’s mobile stating that he was found dead by the bushes with injuries on his face.

Mr Reddy was stabbed to death with knives. He had injuries on his head, neck, face, back and legs. The windows of the car were also broken and the seat contained blood, indicating that he was attacked while in the driver’s seat.

Medipally inspector B. Anji Reddy said “The victim was stabbed with a knife. It is not yet clear if he was accompanied by them or if his car was attacked on the way. The motive of the murder is also not yet known. The body was handed over to his wife after post-mortem at examination at Gandhi Hospital and a murder case was registered.”

Meanwhile, special teams have been formed to identify clues and nab suspects. As the murder scene did not have cameras in the vicinity, the police are looking for CCTV footage from cameras installed at nearby areas, to find out if Mr Reddy was alone in his car.

The teams are simultaneously investigating the call data records to find the phone numbers of the suspects present at the spot, said the police.

Malkajgiri ACP G. Sundeep said, “No arrests have been made yet and an investigation is on.”
