Chennai: The police have arrested five men and a woman with criminal records under Goondas act on Thursday. The arrest was made on the orders of the city police commissioner A.K. Vishwanathan.
The accused were identified as P.Jesuraj(45)of Ariyalur, N.Selvaraj(44) of Manali, E. Ramesh(34) of Puliyantope, S.Rajesh(32) of Madhavaram and K.Aravindh(34) of Red Hills. Police told they were regular offenders and have a series of criminal cases booked against them in city police stations.The accused were involved in Smuggling, theft, snatching, murder and attempt to murder cases police said, .the accused despite being nabbed several times, had again gone back to the life of crime. Based on the order by Commissioner A.K Vishwanathan the city police have detained the eight accused under Goondas act on Thursday.
Similarly, based on the orders by Kancheepuram district collector P.Ponnaiah a woman was also detained under Goondas act in Kancheepuramon Thursday. according to the sources, she had so many pending cases on dealing with Kangaroo courts.
