Chennai: Swiss tourist robbed of Rs 2.50 lakh worth currency

A case has been registered and the Police are verifying a CCTV footage from the locality to nab the snatchers.

Chennai: A Swiss tourist was robbed of a bag containing foreign currencies worth Rs 2.50 lakh in T.Nagar on Thursday.

The victim, identified as M.Ball Carole(28), is a Switzerland national who had been staying in a popular hotel at Cenotaph road in Teynampet from Tuesday. Carole, who was on an all-India tour, was planning to leave Chennai on November 23.

According to the police, the incident happened when he went to Pondy Bazaar for shopping on Thursday afternoon. Police said he took an autorickshaw which slowed down near Maya Plaza on Theagaraya road when two men on a motorcycle snatched his bag and fled the scene. Sources said the vehicle was moving in slow traffic and suddenly two men snatched his bag containing about $3, 500 (around Rs 2.50 lakh).
