Top police meet as Maoist threat looms over Kerala
Kozhikode: A high-level meeting of police officials from northern districts chaired by DGP (north zone) Rajesh Dewan was held here on Wednesday in the wake of intelligence reports that Maoist outfits are gearing up for a reprisal to the killing to two leaders Kuppu Devaraj and Ajita in an encounter last year. It is to be recalled that the encounter was held on November 24 in 2016. Mr Dewan warned the officials on the possibility of an attack from Maoists in connection with the anniversary of the encounter.
Addressing the officials, Mr Dewan said that districts including Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Rural Kozhikode and Kasargod districts are under Maoist threat. “We cannot rule out the warning signals”, he told the officials and directed them to ensure foolproof security arrangements in the district. State special branch head Vinod Kumar, headquarters IG Dinendra Kashyap, district police chiefs S Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar (Kozhikode city), M.K. Pushkaran (Kozhikode rural), Dr Arul R.B. Krishna (Wayanad), G. Siva Vikram (Kannur) and K.G. Simon (Kasargod) among others participated.
