Bengaluru: Man held for trying to smuggle ganja into jail

The drug was hidden in biryani packets.

BENGALURU: A man was arrested for attempting to smuggle ganja to his friends lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail by hiding it in a biryani packet on Wednesday morning. The accused is identified as, Vasudev alias Vasu, 27, a resident of J.P. Nagar.

Police said the accused was visiting two of his friends, who were jailed on charges of murder. Both were addicted to drugs and hence requested him to get it for them.

Vasu hid the ganja in the biryani packets, but was caught when the security at the front gate grew suspicious and checked the food packet thoroughly.

The Parappana Agrahara police then arrested the accused and seized 500 gram of ganja.

During interrogation they found that Vasu himself had a criminal past and was charged twice under Section 307 (attempt to murder) in Ashoknagar and J. P. Nagar police stations.

Nigerian arrested In another incident, the CCB arrested a 24-year-old Nigerian who tried to sell cocaine near a super market in K.R. Puram police station limits on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as, Keneeth Nawabunwane, a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar. According to the police, he was staying in the city illegally as his visa had expired long back and had taken to drug peddling.

The K. R. Puram police have registered a case and have seized 5 grams of cocaine and Rs 1,500 in cash and a mobile phone.
