Chennai: The City Crime Branch (CCB) launched a probe into the cheating charges made against V M Jothimani, who belongs to the family of former CM M Karunanidhi.
According to sources, a case of robbery and cheating was filed by Neelankarai police against Jothimani, and it was later handed over to the CCB. The alleged accused, Jothimani, is married to Ezhil Arasi, who is the granddaughter of Karunanidhi.
Police sources said that Jothimani runs a cosmetic business and cheated another businessman of Rs 80 lakh. A case was filed against him and four others who allegedly carried out the crime.
It is claimed that a few weeks ago, Jothimani's friend Zakir Ahmed contacted one Dinesh (33) of Sowcarpet, who also runs a cosmetic business. Zakir told Dinesh that if he could give Rs 80 lakh in the denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000, he would be given Rs 100 crore in return, in Rs 100 denomination.
