Karnataka: Couple robbed at knifepoint

The robbers barged into the house of Ganesh, a tile worker and assaulted him before robbing him of Rs 3,000 in cash.

BENGALURU: In separate incidents, a couple and caterer were robbed by armed gangs in Viveknagar and Girinagar police station limits on Friday. In the first incident, a couple residing in Austin Town were assaulted and robbed of their cash and car at knife point by a gang of three armed men.

The robbers barged into the house of Ganesh, a tile worker and assaulted him before robbing him of Rs 3,000 in cash and waited outside the house to keep a watch on his wife.

Few minutes later, Ganesh’s wife, who works in a private firm, returned home in her car unaware about the presence of miscreants. As she got out of the car, the trio attacked her, threatened her at a knife point and made away with '5,500 in cash along with the vehicle.

Shocked by the sudden development, the couple raised alarm prompting the neighbours to rush to their help, but by the time they arrived the accused had fled. On being alerted the Vivek Nagar police rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed investigation. The police have obtained CCTV footage to identify the accused.

Caterer robbed
In another incident a caterer was allegedly threatened at a knife point and was robbed of cash, gold chain and a bracelet by a gang of eight members, including two women. The incident took place in Dattatreya Nagar on Friday night around 9 pm. The victim, Gururaj, was alone at home when the accused called him out on the pretext of placing an order.

As soon as Gururaj came out, the accused overpowered him, tied his hands and legs and gagged his mouth. They then ransacked the house and broke the cupboard and made away with 50 grams of gold valuables and Rs 27,000 in cash and fled, police said.

He then raised alarm following which the neighbours rushed for his rescue and informed the police. They reached the spot and carried out investigation in this regard. Girinagar police have registered a case.
