Labourer's murder: Wife, ex-hubby held

Accused were in a relationship. Wanted to eliminate victim.

Bengaluru: Nearly four days after a man was murdered in Veerasagara in Yelahnaka New Town, the jurisdiction police have cracked the case and arrested his wife and her ex-husband.

The deceased has been identified as Sagai Raj, a labourer, and the accused have been identified as Mamatha Kom Sagai Raj and Appu Bin Subramani. The arrests were made on Friday.

Police said Mamatha (23) married Sagai Raj five years ago, but she continued having her relationship with Appu, whom she had married earlier on her own, but her parents had pressured her to leave.

On September 18, Appu, and Mamatha hatched a conspiracy to eliminate SagaiRaj. They called Sagai and the trio drank liquor the entire night.

Once Sagai was drunk, Appu and Mamatha drove him in a car to an isolated place. With the help of a duppatta, they strangulated him to death.

Police said after committing the murder, the duo abandoned the body at an isolated place and went to their respective homes to avoid suspicion.

However, they ran out of luck when police started checking their call data records (CDR). They found Mamatha’s phone tower location.

They picked her up for questioning and she spilled the beans.

During interrogation, Mamatha allegedly told the police that she was in love with Appu got secretly married to him. But her parents were against their relationship and they brought her home and got her married to Sagai.

She also told the police that she tried to persuade her parents, but they were adamant.

Unable to come to terms with the separation, Mamatha and Appu killed Sagai near Sambram College close to Abhabhavani temple.
