CCTVs help cops solve Gulf returnee's murder mystery
Hyderabad: Clues from CCTV footage helped the Cyberabad police solve the murder of a Gulf returnee, Nazia Begum, and arrested a cab driver.
The police said that she was killed by Sheikh Saleem, her friend, when she asked him to give money to travel to the Middle East for a second time. Saleem killed her and dumped her body in the Musi river at Rajendranagar.
According to police, Nazia Begum, a resident of Bowenpally, got married to Mohammed Mahaboob in 2005 and had a son. Due to differences, they parted ways. After this, Nazia married another person in 2011. She gave birth to a girl from the second marriage. But unable to bear the harassment, she left him. In 2015, she went to the Middle East to work as a domestic help and returned in March 2017. Before flying to the Gulf, she had made friends with a car driver, Shaikh Saleem.
Ms P.V. Padmaja, DCP Shamshabad, said she demanded Rs 70,000 from him to travel to the Gulf again. But when he refused, Nazia threatened to reveal their affair to his wife. Unable to bear this, he decided to kill her.
On August 31, he picked her from Kalinga enclave in Bowenpally and drove her to a forest area in Ayodhya Nagar in Medchal.
Saleem stabbed her on her chest and abdomen and killed her brutally. He later dumped the body in the Musi river.
Based on her father’s complaint, CCTV footage was examined which revealed Saleem going with the victim. He was arrested and sent to remand.
