ALAPPUZHA: A drug peddler has been arrested by Kayamkulam police after he attempted to attack a police team with a country sword during an operation. The police said that the accused was identified as Riyaz Khan, 35, from Nallethu, Krishnapuram. The incident took place on Wednesday. The accused launched the attack against a police team led by additional sub-inspector (narcotic cell) Ali Akbar who was engaged in anti-drug operation in Kappil.
The accused arrived on a bike having no number plate. The operation was launched after the police received information about a ganja mafia active near a school at Kappil. He unleashed the sword at police vehicle, but nobody was injured. Even though he escaped from the spot, he was arrested later by the police. The police said that the accused was a habitual offender. There were many cases against him on ganja trade at the same station. He has been remanded by Kayamkulam court to judicial custody.
