Thrissur: Wadakkanchery police on Thursday arrested two persons for allegedly raping a 55-year-old woman from Mulloorkara in her house the previous evening. Her neighbours Ummer (59) and Narayanan Nair (65) are in custody. Ummer faces the charges of rape and Narayanan Nair abetting it, police said. The victim who is a Dalit is currently undergoing treatment at the Thrissur Government Medical College after her condition worsened.
The hospital authorities who confirmed sexual assault in medical examination informed the police following which they registered a case against both. “The incident took place when the woman was at home with her five-year-old granddaughter. She was already suffering from renal and heart diseases,” police said.
The woman first sought medical care at the Wadakkanchery district hospital and then returned home. Later her condition worsened with bleeding, following which local people who came to know about it rushed her to the Medical College Hospital. She is currently admitted to its intensive care unit and is under observation. Doctors attending her said her condition was improving. DySP P. Viswambharan is heading the investigation.
