Inter-state gang held, goods worth Rs 60 lakh seized

Hyderabad: Nalgonda police arrested an inter-state gang of property offenders involved in a series of offences in Nalgonda and recovered stolen property worth Rs 60 lakh from them. The gang gained entry into locked houses and stole jewellery and other costly items.

They mortgaged the stolen jewellery with Muthoot Finance branches and spent the earnings on cricket betting and other expenses.

In Nalgonda district alone, they were involved in 20 offences, said SP Nalgonda K. Apoorva Rao.

The main accused J. Venkat Rao and D. Sudhakar from Palnadu district of Andhra Pradesh were first arrested in 2011. After coming out on bail, they ran a tea stall for a few years, but due to insufficient earnings, they decided to start committing property offences again.

However, fearing surveillance from police, they migrated to Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district.

During vehicle checking, they landed in the police net, said Apoorva Rao. Gold weighing 83 tolas, a bike and a car were seized from them, she said.
