Tirupati: A 20-year-old girl was gang-raped at Angallu of Kurabalakota mandal of Chittoor district. The incident took place on July 3 but came to light after she lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday.
According to Tirupati Rural circle inspector Ashok Kumar, the victim, a third year BTech student, and her boyfriend were sitting at Handri-Neeva Canal at Angallu on August 3 at around 7 pm when three youths, S. Ashraf, 24, Sh. Shamir, and Jaya Chandra, both 23, who were consuming liquor nearby, confronted and overpowered them.
The boy escaped. The trio then dragged away the victim from the main road and sexually assaulted her.
On the basis of her statement, the local police registered a case on Thursday. The victim stated that three youth belonged to her village and had threatened her of dire consequences if she complained about the incident.
