Rajahmundry: A school teacher was thrashed and paraded naked for impregnating a minor girl at Eluru in West Godavari in the late hours on Tuesday.
Kari Rambabu, 38, hailing from Kurnool is working as an English teacher in a local private school for several years. He pampered the minor girl when she was his student while studying Class X.
He used to make her write on the blackboard stating that her hand-writing was good.
He also used to postpone the exams when she did not prepare well.
Her friends used to coax her to ask the teacher to postpone the exam when they were not prepared. Now the girl aged 17, is a III-year polytechnic course at a local private polytechnic college.
Rambabu has been continuing his relationship with her even after she moved to another college to pursue her higher studies.
His wife left him about eight months back due to family issues. Since then, he has been living alone in his house in the town.
He started inviting the minor to his house on the pretext of correcting answer scripts of Class X students and developed a physical relationship with her, by promising to marry her. They have been in a relationship for the last six months.
On August 19, he took the girl to the temple at Dwaraka Tirumala and married her secretly.
On August 21, the girl developed severe stomach ache and when she informed her parents about it, they took her to a private hospital where the doctor declared that she was five months pregnant.
Her parents were shocked and asked her about it. She then revealed about her relationship with the school teacher. The parents made her call him and invited him home.
When he came home, they asked him what he did to the girl. The teacher confessed to the crime and asked her parents to keep the girl at home and offered to give a monthly maintenance of Rs 4,000 to keep the issue a secret.
Angered by this, the girl’s parents, family members and locals thrashed him severely and paraded him naked on the National Highway late on Tuesday night.
Learning about the development, the police rushed there, rescued him and admitted him to a local government hospital.
Later, the girl was also sent to the government hospital for medical examination.
Based on a complaint from the girl’s mother, police booked a case under Section 6 of PoCSO Act and also under Section 376 of IPC in the wee hours of Wednesday at II-town police station.
Eluru DSP K. Eswara Rao said, “Based on preliminary inquiry, the school teacher confessed to the crime and we will arrest him as soon as he gets discharged from the hospital.”
