Bengaluru: Couple allege harassment by corporator, hang themselves
Bengaluru: Alleging harassment by Hemmigepura BBMP ward Corporator Arya Srinivas and others over repayment of debts, a couple committed suicide by hanging at their residence in Mavalli near Lal Bagh in Kalasipalya police station limits on Monday night.
Nanjundaswamy, 47, and his wife, Pushpalatha, 45, are the deceased. Nanjundaswamy was running a hotel in Kalasipalya.
According to the police, the couple had hanged to themselves to a saree on Monday night around 10 pm. The incident came to light when their children came home. They have left a suicide note alleging that corporator Arya Srinivas and others were responsible for their death as they were allegedly harassing the couple over financial matter. It is also said that the couple’s elder son Chandan had allegedly incurred huge debts and the lenders were harassing the couple.
The corporator told reporters that he was not aware why the couple had written his name in the suicide note.
“I knew Nanjundaswamy and his family for the past 18 years. We had partnership in land and finance business earlier. But for the last two years we had no business ties. Last Friday, Nanjunadaswamy had come home and to borrow money. I had told him I had no money now, but will try to arrange. Recently, he had only called me but we did not discuss any financial matters. Also, I have not given him any money. There should be an impartial probe,” he added.
Kalasipalya police have registered a case. They said that they are yet to know the details of the financial transactions and debts the couple had.
