Mewat: Three men from Mewat allegedly kidnapped a 29-year-old woman from her father’s house and gang-raped her in the Aravalli hills in Badshahpur, 20 km from Gurgaon, last week.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the men gangraped the woman because she dared to publicly shame them for harassing her.
The village panchayat had hauled up the three suspects a month ago for harassing the woman. They were let off after they apologised to her in front of the gathering, said the report.
Since then, the woman began to live with her parents at a village in Badshahpur along the Gurgaon-Sohna road, said the report.
But around 11:30 pm on Saturday night, when she was at her father’s two-room house with her four younger brothers, the three men barged in, abducted her on a two-wheeler, took her to the hills of Gairatpur Bas village, and raped her.
Her father, a security guard, was on night duty while her mother was undergoing treatment at a local hospital when the incident happened. When her father returned home, he could not find his daughter. She returned home on Sunday and narrated the incident to him, following which a police complaint was registered.
The woman, who is married, alleged that the three youth began to harass her after she moved in with her husband.
The police have registered an FIR under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, but the accused are absconding.
“They are known rabble-rousers. The entire village in Mewat knows them,” the woman’s father was quoted as saying.
